[O. welwitschii (Knobl.) Gilg & Schellenb. known from S. Tomé, Annobon, Angola and tropical E. Africa is very close and, as pointed out by Verdoorn (Bothalia 6: 581 (1956)) the two species may possibly be regarded as subspecies of the S. African O. capensis Linn. Maitland 498 and Lightbody FHI 26283 approach O. welwitschii in their longer slender petioles and slightly acuminate leaf-apices.]
