Information
Perennial herb, up to 1 m or more tall, from a basal tuber; stems glaucous. Leaves fleshy, ± crowded towards base of stem, lanceolate to elliptic or obovate, 3–26 x 1–13 cm, glaucous, with entire margins. Capitula solitary or up to 10 together in lax pedunculate cymes, nodding in bud; calyculus absent or occasionally of a few bracts; phyllaries 8–13(–14), 12–31 x 2–6 mm, almost smooth, minutely pubescent at the apex. Florets bright red, numerous; corolla c. 16–17 mm long, lobes up to 3.5 mm or more long; stigmatic appendages linear, up to 3–4 mm long. Achenes 4–6 mm long, glabrous; pappus white, c. 10–35 mm long.
