Information
Leaf prostrate, up to 16 cm wide, broadly cordate, often heavily pleated, 10–14-veined, mostly with 1(4) ragged irregularly interrupted keels or fringes running along the pleats; fringes and underside of leaf often dark purple; upper surface sometimes with silvery lines along the veins; petiole very short.Inflorescence usually 2-flowered in the Flora Zambesiaca area.Column 7–9 mm long.

Brachystegia woodland, riverine forests, thickets, submontane forests and pine plantations

The leaf upper surface is sometimes totally smooth, and not keeled.Such collections are known from Zambia (C) and Mozambique (N).However, there is a continuous variation between smooth and heavily keeled leaves.
