Evergreen shrub or small tree; bark grey or whitish; branchlets brownish, minutely pubescent. Leaves with 1–3 mm long petiole; blade lanceolate to ovate, obovate or suborbicular, 5–20 x 3–11 mm, acute to acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, usually serrate in upper half, leathery, glossy above, smooth and punctate beneath, glabrous or almost so. Flowers in 1–5-flowered clusters, male or functionally female, small, 4-merous, glabrous, gland-dotted; pedicels up to 1.5 mm long, glabrous. Calyx-lobes c. 1 mm long, margins finely toothed in male flowers, entire in female flowers. Corolla greenish white or pink; lobes entire or finely toothed. Anthers longer than wide, apiculate. Ovary with few ovules; style 1–3 mm long; stigma disk-shaped, with toothed margin. Fruit a berry, finally purple or black, up to 5 mm in diam., smooth except for raised gland-dots.
