Small woody shrub; branchlets terete, minutely and densely white-hairy. Leaves 1 1/2 by 1/2 in., narrowed at either end, densely and minutely hairy; petiole 0– 1/8 in. long. Spikes terminal, 1 3/4 by 1/2 in., 8–12-flowered, hardly strobilate; bract 1/2 by 1/6– 1/5 in., elliptic, acute at either end, mucronate, minutely and sparsely hairy; bracteoles 2, linear, scarcely 1/12 in. long. Calyx 1/6– 1/5 in. long; sepals 5, united 1/3 their length; two anticous often more highly united so that the calyx is 2-lipped, sub-4-fid. Corolla-tube 1/3 in. long, linear-cylindric; limb 2-lipped, nearly as long; anticous lip 3-lobed; posticous lip shortly 2-fid. Stamens 2, rudiments 0; filaments minutely scabrous-hairy; anthers linear-oblong, muticous, parallel at equal height; pollen subglobose, smooth, with 3 very narrow bands (on which are stopples) not reaching the poles. Ovary glabrous; ovules 2 in each cell, lower smaller and soon shrivelling up; style slightly hairy towards the base; stigma shortly 2-lobed. Capsule 1/3 in. long, obovoid, compressed, 2-seeded, hairy; stalk solid; placentæ not rising elastically from the base; seeds yellow, shining, very hard, smooth, without hairs or tufts.
