Straggly shrubby herb to 2 m tall with sticky inflorescences; stems towards apex sparsely and finely puberulous in two bands. Leaves with petiole of stem-leaves 1.5–3 cm long; lamina of stem-leaves narrowly ovate to ovate, largest ± 9≈3.5 cm, apex acuminate, base unequal-sided, cordate with a sinus to 3 mm deep, margin shallowly crenate-dentate, with finely puberulous midrib above and with domatia in axils of main lateral veins beneath, otherwise glabrous. Inflorescence a 10–30 cm long open much-branched panicle with long spreading branches and flowers in lax dichasial cymes with 3–7 flowers or solitary towards apex; bracts leafy, persistent, green, upwards gradually smaller and narrower; branches and pedicels at base of inflorescence with indumentum as branches, upwards gradually more densely puberulous and with scattered to dense long capitate glands; pedicels to 4 mm long, sharply bent where attached to branch. Calyx puberulous and with long broad glossy many-celled capitate glands (apical 2–3 mm of lobes without glands); lobes linear-lanceolate, 0.5–1 mm wide, ventral and lateral 10–12(–16 in fruit) mm long, dorsal 13–15(–20 in fruit) mm long, 2–3(–5 in fruit) mm longer than the others. Corolla resupinate, bright red (or when young whitish outside with reddish throat), ± 40 mm long, glabrous on the outside, cylindric tube ± 2 mm long, throat ± 28 mm long and ± 12 mm across at mouth in dried state, slightly curved along dorsal edge (ventrally in open flower); dorsal and lateral lobes broadly ovate, ± 10≈8 mm, ventral lobe ± 13≈10 mm, erect. Free part of filaments 3–4 mm long and free fused part ± 4 mm, glabrous; anthers 3.5–4.5 mm long, spur on outer theca of longer anthers ± 1.5 mm long. Stigma ± 2 mm long; ovary hairy in apical half. Capsule ± 21 mm long, sparsely hairy towards apex. Seed (immature) ± 4≈3 mm.
