Notes
A rather variable species in which a coastal and an inland variety are recognized here. A small leaved form known as M. melindense A. & R. Fernandes is here regarded as a shrub or possibly juvenile form of var. sansibaricum; both the small and typical leaf form are known from the same localities. Further gatherings and field studies may prove the two forms to be separable.Similarly M. sansibaricum var. maritimum (A. & R. Fernandes) A. & R. Fernandes is regarded as being within the acceptable range of variation for var. sansibaricum; again further collections and field studies are required.
