Panicle alone known, linear-oblong, 8 1/2 in. long by about 1 in. wide, contracted; rhachis terete, finely striate, pilose at the lowest node, elsewhere glabrous and minutely scaberulous; branches erect, 2–3-nate, up to 3 in. long, finely divided from the base and upwards; ramifications minutely scaberulous; branchlets and pedicels capillary, flexuous, the latter very unequal, 1/2–2 1/2 lin. long, with silky white hairs from below their discoid tips. Spikelets oblong, 1 3/4–1 7/8 lin. long, straw-coloured, strongly grooved and nerved, pilose. Lower glume ovate-oblong, 1/3 lin. long, rounded-obtuse, 1-nerved, delicately membranous, shortly hairy at the base with the hairs up to nearly as long as the glume; upper as long as the spikelet, oblong when flattened, 2-lobed with the lobes broad, acute, glabrous and one-fifth the length of the glume and with an awn 2–3 lin. long from the sinus, membranous, shortly and very sparingly hairy on the surface, towards the margins and below the apex with long tubercle-based hairs, which exceed the tip by 1 lin., strongly 7-nerved with the innermost nerves anastomosing. Lower floret barren: valve as long as the upper glume, slightly narrower, similar in hairiness and texture, strongly 5-nerved, 2-lobed with the lobes acute, narrow, glabrous, nearly one-third the length of the valve, with an awn up to 7 lin. long from the sinus; valvule linear, 3/4–1 1/2 lin. long, shortly 2-fid, keels minutely scaberulous. Upper floret hermaphrodite: valve ovate-oblong when flattened, 1 1/3–1 1/2 lin. long, 2-fid, tips minutely puberulous, faintly 3–5-nerved, delicately membranous; valvule slightly shorter. Grain about 3/4 lin. long, oblong, brown.
