Information
Herbaceous; branches and inflorescence puberulous or hoary. Stem stout, obtusely 4-gonous, glabrous. Leaves 3–7 in. by 1 1/2–4 in., ovate-cordate, acuminate, denticulate, 5–7-nerved, sparsely hairy above, still more sparsely beneath, nerves and transverse nerves slender, distant; petiole 1/2–3 in. Flowers in small, spreading, panicled cymes, shortly pedicelled, 3/4–1 in. diameter, rose-purple. Calyx 1/3 in., obconic or funnel-shaped, 5-angled; lobes 5, short, triangular, obtuse, tips pubescent at the back. Petals elliptic-ovate. Anthers of long stamens 1/4 in., incurved, equalling the connective, appendage clavate-lobed; anthers of short stamens much smaller, connectives shortly produced, 2-lobed at the base. Capsule urceolate, strongly reticulately ribbed.
