Information
glabrous; stolons 0; stem 6–9 in. long, rather slender, trigonous at the top, smooth; leaves as long as the stem, 1/10– 1/8 in. broad; rays of umbel 2–5, 0–1 1/2 in. long, rather stiff; bracts 3–5, similar to the leaves, suberect, lowest 3–5 in. long; spikes 1/2 by 1/4 in., very dense, greenish; spikelets (even when nearly ripe) suberect, 1-nutted, 1/8– 1/6 in. long, oblong-ellipsoid, very similar to those of M. capensis, but greener. null
Distribution
COAST REGION var. β, Uniondale Div.; rocky hill near Groot River, Burchell, 5020!SOUTH AFRICA without locality, Alexander.
Notes
The var. β may be treated as a distinct species; but no differences have been found other than the slight ones given above.
