Spikes long, cylindric, nearly sessile in all the examples; but this species does not really differ from M. radiatus except by the suppression of the upper flower. There is a “representative” species of the M. sieberianus group abundant in Tropical America, viz. M. flavus, Vahl, admitted distinct by all authors, including Bentham. I can find no character except the lowest glume I., which is longer (like a setaceous bract) in the American group. M. macer appears to me extraordinarily like M. flavus, Vahl.
