MAERUA somalensis Pax [family CAPPARACEAE], (1892);. type: N2, near “Meid”, Hildebrandt 1361 (B holo., BM K iso.).
Information
Shrub, c. 2 m tall, glabrous. Leaves simple; blade ovate-orbicular, c. 15–25 x 14–20 mm, obtuse and mucronulate at the apex, thick and leathery, glaucous, without prominent nerves; petiole 5–6 mm long. Flowers in short corymbose racemes; pedicels 6–12 mm long. Receptacle cylindrical, widening upwards, c. 4 mm long. Sepals c. 10 mm long. Petals small or absent. Stamens many; androgynophore about as long as receptacle. Ovary ovoid, c. 3 mm long; gynophore 12–15 mm long. Fruit subglobose, c. 14 x 10 mm.
