Information
Small shrub or perennial herb up to 30 cm. tall, glabrous except for the sepal-margins; branches greenish, longitudinally striate. Leaves simple; lamina 5–10 x 1–2.5 cm., narrowly oblong-elliptic or elliptic, apex acuminate, base narrowly cuneate, nerves in 4–5 pairs, fairly prominent on both sides; petioles up to 5 cm. long. Inflorescence racemose, terminal or axillary, or flowers single in the axils of the upper leaves; pedicels up to 2.5 cm. long; bracts like the leaves but smaller. Receptacle c. 4 mm. long and 2 mm. wide, cylindric, slightly wider at the mouth, longitudinally 10–1 2-ribbed; sepals 0.8–1.0 x 0.4–0.5 cm., oblong-spathulate, apex obtuse, mucronulate, margin shortly and densely lanate. Petals white, c. 7 x 3 mm., narrowly obovate, apexacute, margin undulate. Androgynophore very slightly exceeding the receptacle. Stamens c. 30; filaments c. 1.8 cm. long; anthers 1.75 x 0.75 mm., oblong. Ovary on a slightly sulcate gynophore 2–2.7 cm. long, ovoid; ovules 10–12 on 2 placentas; stigma subsessile, capitate. Fruit c. 1 cm. in diam., globose, with a persistent stigma, smooth. Seeds 5–8, c. 5 mm. in diam., irregularly ellipsoid, testa smooth.
