Information
Shrub or small tree. Leaves up to 16 cm long; leaflets 7–17, broadly ovate to lanceolate, up to 7 x 3.5 cm, somewhat acuminate. Pseudoracemes up to 16 cm long; pedicels up to 13 mm long. Calyx-tube 3 mm long; lobes broadly triangular, up to 0.5 mm long. Corolla 11–14 mm long, purplish-blue; standard thinly white silky outside. Style glabrous, ± 8 mm long. Pod up to 11 x 1.1 cm, densely silky pubescent, the tip glabrous and downcurved, up to 5-seeded. Seeds nearly black, ± 6 mm in diam.
Range
S3 subsp. australis Gillett in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
Altitude range
c. 50 m.
