Information
Young branchlets minutely pubescent or puberulous, older ones glabrous, pallid, rather densely lenticellate, lenticels rather inconspicuous; internodes 1/2–1 1/2 in. long. Leaves opposite, ovate or elliptic, rounded at the apex, obtuse or rounded at the base, 1 1/4–2 in. long, 3/4–1 1/4 in. broad, coriaceous, glabrous; lateral nerves 2–4 on each side, rather oblique, raised on the upper surface, less so on the lower; petiole rather slender, 2–4 lin. long, shortly pilose. Heads axillary, 4–5-flowered; peduncle stout, 1 1/4 lin. long, shortly pubescent, produced in the centre about 1/2 lin. above the insertion of the flowers; flowers inserted inside the spreading margin, which is 1/4– 1/3 lin. broad; bract cupular with a deltoid dorsal lobe, shortly pubescent outside, solid base about 3/8 lin. long, dorsal margin 1 1/4 lin. long, ventral margin 3/4 lin. long. Receptacle and calyx together campanulate, wide-mouthed, 1 1/2 lin. long; receptacle 3/4– 7/8 lin. long, lower half glabrous, upper half minutely papillate. Calyx patulous, subtruncate, ciliolate, 7/8 lin. long. Corolla about 1 3/4 in. long in bud, very shortly pilose outside, apical swelling oblong, pentagonal, rounded, 2–2 1/4 lin. long, angles ribbed; tube split unilaterally about 8 lin. down, basal swelling subglobose, 1 3/4–2 lin. in diam.; lobes reflexed, subspathulate, 4 1/4 lin. long, enlarged upper part 2 1/2–2 3/4 lin. long, 1 lin. broad. Filaments inserted 1/2 lin. below the base of the corolla-lobes, deflexed, 2 1/2 lin. long, tooth 3/8 lin. long; anthers narrowly oblong, 1 1/2 lin. long. Disc pentagonal, shortly lobed, 1/6 lin. high, lobes papillate. Style skittle-shaped above, thickened part 2 3/4 lin. long, neck 1 1/4 lin. long, thicker in the upper half; stigma subglobose, 3/8 lin. in diam.
