Information
Small shrub to 1 m. or so; twigs stellate-puberulous, soon glabrescent. Petiole 0.5–7 mm. long; lamina pale rather yellow green to full green, elliptic-lanceolate to elliptic or ovate-elliptic, 3.5–10 cm. long, 1.5–6 cm. wide, bluntly pointed to subacute at the apex, basally cordate to rounded, soon glabrescent; lateral nerves 4–8 pairs. Racemes axillary and at older nodes, 12–24-flowered; axis 2–4 cm. long, whitish puberulous; pedicel 2–4 mm. long; bract triangular-ovate, 0.8–1.5 mm. long. Receptacle 1–1.5 mm. long; calyx very short. Corolla 2.5–3.8 cm. long, apricot-yellow to orange with a dark spot at the base of each lobe, and sometimes a greenish basal swelling, thinly stellate puberulous; bud-tip clavate; tube 1.3–1.8 cm. long; basal swelling (2–)3–4 mm. long, narrow for 1.5–2 mm. above and then flared; lobes erect, ± cohering at the expanded tips. Filaments inserted 5–6 mm. above the base of the lobes, the upper part thickened, coiled and generally breaking off; anthers 1.2–1.8 mm. long, the dorsal thecae relatively short, with a broad ± slightly bilobed connective-appendage. Berry red turning black, ellipsoid, 5–8 mm. long, 4–5 mm. in diameter.

Notes
The populations from Zanzibar, described as O. poecilobotrys, have notably short petioles, 0.5–1(–2) mm. long (never less than 2 mm. on the mainland), but in other respects no significant differences are apparent.
