Information
Branchlets slender, glabrous, finely striate, drying brown, internodes 1 1/2–3 in. long. Leaves opposite, ovate or ovate-oblong, acuminate to the acute or obtuse apex, rounded or obtuse at the base, 3 1/2–5 in. long, 1 1/2–2 in. broad, thinly coriaceous, glabrous, dull, not wrinkled; lateral nerves distinct on both surfaces; petiole 1 1/2–5 lin. long. Umbels axillary, ternate, 5–8-flowered; peduncle 1 1/2–2 lin. long; pedicels 2 1/2–4 lin. long; bract elliptic from a saucer-shaped base, strongly umbonate, dorsal margin 5/8 lin. long, ventral margin patulous, 1/6 lin. long. Receptacle 3/4 lin. long. Calyx suberect, 3/8– 1/2 lin. long. Corolla yellow and red, hardly 1 3/4 in. long, truncate in bud; tube about 11 1/2 lin. long, the lowermost 2–2 1/2 lin. slightly swollen; lobes 9 lin. long, subspathulate above, thickened and shoulder-shaped at the apex. Filaments inserted about 1 lin. above the insertion of the corolla-lobes, 6 1/2–6 3/4 lin. long, tooth 3/8– 1/2 lin. long; anthers narrowly oblong, 3/4– 7/8 lin. long. Disc 1/4 lin. high or less, slightly lobed.
Distribution
Spanish Guinea Lower Guinea Fang District; near Bianemajong, 1500 ft., Tessmann, B 98!Congo Lower Guinea Cataracts District; near Ngo-Muila and on the banks of the Mangola River, Dupuis!
Notes
Mann, 889, from the Bagru River, Sierra Leone, probably belongs to L. micrantherus, but further material is required for confirmation.
