Shrub up to 3 m tall; stems, leaves and calyces ± densely pubescent with stellate hairs or glabrous, and with glandular tubercles secreting a glutinous resin. Leaves alternate on long shoots or clustered on short shoots, simple, elliptic or oblanceolate to ovate or obovate, 1.5–5.5 x 0.4–2.5 cm, subentire to distinctly dentate or crenate in the apical half, narrowing towards the base into a short petiole. Flowers on articulated pedicel up to c. 15 mm long; bracteoles entire to pinnatifid. Calyx 10–20 mm long, with 3–5 mm long lobes, each usually with a horn-like projection near the apex. Petals orange, free part c. 7–10 x 5–6.5 mm. Capsules broadly ellipsoid to subglobose, 7–15 x 6–12 mm. Seeds 4–5 x 2–2.5 mm; aril white, usually 3–4 mm long.

Notes
Ba-la-lak, rumassan (Som.). As conceived here, L. glutinosa varies considerably as regards, e.g., indumentum and leaf-shape. The single collection seen from S3 (the type of var. glabra) is glabrous or almost so. The same applies to most of the collections from the inland dunes of SE Hiiraan in C2 (e. g. Thulin & Abdi Dahir 6436), but these also differ in their subentire and narrower, ± oblanceolate, leaves. L. microphylla is here interpreted as a depauperate form from arid parts of Bari Region.
