Information
rhizome stout, subterranean; leaves 3 or 4 in a fascicle, long-petioled, suberect or somewhat arching, elongate-lanceolate, acute, with 5–9 prominent veins, 3–4 ft. long, 2–4 in. broad; scapes lateral, erect, very stout, 4–5 ft. high, with strong spathaceous sheaths; raceme long, many-flowered; bracts ovate-oblong or elliptic-oblong, acute or acuminate, concave or convolute, 1/2–1 in. long; pedicels about 1 in. long; flowers large; sepals ovate-oblong, acute, more or less reflexed, 3/4–1 in. long, green with brown stripes; petals spreading, broadly ovate, subobtuse, 1–1 1/4 in. long, white; lip strongly 3-lobed, longer than the petals; side lobes broadly rounded, erect, green striped with brown; front lobe broadly ovate-orbicular, obtuse, lilac-purple with numerous radiating darker stripes; disc with 3–5 erect crested keels, light green; spur broadly conical, obtuse, 1/4 in. long; column clavate, narrowly winged above, 3/4 in. long. null
