Information
Plants perennial, occasionally annual, often reddish violet especially beneath the leaves. Stolons 1-3 mm. wide. Leaves circular, up to 12 cm. across, with a wide sinus; petiole 5-10(-30) mm. long. Inflorescence usually 10-20-flowered; pedicels (2-)4-7 cm. long. Calyx 4-7 mm., sepals spreading at anthesis, later closing around the capsule. Corolla 1.2-1.5 cm. across, golden yellow; tube ± 3-3.5 mm. long; lobes ± 6-7 mm. long, fimbriate along the margins and midvein, hairy in the throat; heterostylous. Stamens inserted near the sinus’ s of the corolla; filaments 1.5-1.7 mm. long in short-styled flowers, ± 0.5 mm. long in long-styled flowers; anthers 1.1-1.5 mm. long in both types of flowers. Gynoecium ± 4 mm. or 5.5-6 mm.; ovary ovoid, ± 2 mm.; carpels 2; stigma bifid, membranous, laciniate along the margins. Capsule ovoid, ± as long as the calyx but sometimes shorter when it contains only a few seeds. Seeds up to ± 12, smooth to echinulate.

Notes
The collections from the Ndembera River, T 7, ( Bidgood, Congdon & Lovett 71, Lovett & Congdon 1165, Perdue & Kibuwa 11581) are probably this SPECIES, although examination of the specimens is inconclusive. Two collections by Wingfield (405 & 406) from ± 2000 m. in the Poroto Mts. are sterile amd indeterminable.
