branches erect, minutely puberulous or nearly glabrous; leaves 1 1/2–2 in. long, bipinnately divided in the upper 1/2 or 2/3, glabrous; ultimate segments subterete, 1/2– 3/4 in. long, about 1/3 lin. thick, acute or subacute; heads 3–4 at the apex of each shoot, corymbose on separate peduncles, nearly 1 in. in diam., many-flowered; peduncles up to 1 in. long, glabrous or nearly so, furnished with numerous subulate glabrous bracts 3–4 lin. long; involucral bracts very numerous, about 1/2 in. long, linear, acute, the outer not ciliate and quite glabrous except for a tuft of hairs at the apex, a few of the inner very sparingly villous; floral bracts 3–4 1/2 lin. long, narrowly lanceolate, very acute, long villous outside; flowers straight in bud; perianth-tube very short; segments about 5 lin. long, with an almost glabrous claw; limb 1 1/2 lin. long, long-villous, the posticous one glabrous except at the tip; anthers 1 1/4 lin. long, linear; ovary villous; style 4 1/2 lin. long, filiform, with a very narrow stigma. null
