Information
Trailing or scandent herb. Leaf-blade broadly ovate, cordate, sinuate-dentate, asperulous or scabrid, 1.5–10 x 2–13.5 cm, palmately 3–5-lobed, lobes broadly ovate to elliptic; petiole 1–8.5 cm long. Tendrils 2-fid. Dioecious. Male flowers racemose. Peduncle 1–14 cm long, pubescent. Pedicels 3–12 cm long, bracteate. Bracts small. Hypanthium 1.5–2 mm long, pubescent. Sepals ovate or broadly ovate, 3.5–5 mm long. Petals white, obovate, 10–16 mm long. Female flowers solitary. Pedicel 2.5–4(–10) mm long. Ovary subglobose, shortly rostrate, densely spiny, densely hairy, c. 10 mm long. Corolla as in male flowers. Style prominent, enlarging in fruit. Fruits subglobose, densely spiny, 2.5–3.5 cm in diam. Pedicel 0.4–2 cm long. Seeds 5–5.5 x 3–4 x 2–3 mm, black, slightly rough, not margined.
