glabrous; stems 6–8 in. long, slender, hardly thickened at the base, tufted on a very short rhizome; leaves 1/2 as long as the stem, 1/6 in. broad; bracts 3, spreading, lowest 1 1/2 in. long, similar to the leaves; spikes 3–1; middle one 1/2 by 1/4 in. cylindric, dense, straw-coloured; spikelets 1/8 in. long, perfecting 1 nut; fertile glume ovate, hardly acute, keel wingless, smooth; style 2-fid; nut broad, ellipsoid, 2/3 as long as the glume, yellow-brown when ripe (finally nearly black). null
Range
Scattered throughout Tropical Africa, the Mascarene Islands, India, and the warmer part of Australia; but K. odorata, Vahl, which is abundant in Tropical and Sub-Tropical America, is hardly specifically separable.
