Notes
A very complex species and, like the whole genus, much in need of a monographic revision. (See Appendix, p. 451.). [This is, as accepted here, a complex group of plants which often appear heterogenous and rather different in habit, morphological characters and other features. The oldest name for it seems to be J. lithospermifolia Jacq. (1797), but without monographic revision of the whole group it is undesirable to change in this Revised Edition the traditional taxonomic concept for only a small part of the area inhabited by this very widespread Old World species-H.H.]
