Information
corm globose, 3/4–1 in. diam.; tunics of matted, pale brown, reticulated fibres; basal leaves 4–6, ensiform, spreading, moderately firm in texture, 4–8 in. long, 1/3– 1/2 in. broad; stem slender, terete, simple or branched low down, 1–1 1/2 ft. long including the inflorescence; flowers 4–10 in a lax secund spike; spathe-valves oblong, 1/3– 1/2 in. long, green in the lower part, brown and toothed at the tip; perianth-tube slightly exserted, cylindrical, dilated into a small funnel at the top; segments obovate-spathulate, 3/4–1 in. long, much imbricated, bright fulvous-yellow, not distinctly spotted on the claw; stamens one-third the length of the limb; anthers purple, lanceolate; style-branches 1/6 in. long, overtopping the stamens. null

Notes
T. purpurea, Ker in Bot. Mag. sub. t. 1275, and T. sanguinea, coccinea, and aurantiaca, Eckl. Top. Verz. 29, are varieties of this, differing in the colour of the flower from the type as indicated by their names.
