Information
Glabrous. Rhizome 2–4 in. long, horizontal. Stems 3 ft. long, stout, terete. Leaves 0. Umbel apparently lateral, simple or compound, 3–6 in. in diam.; lower bract as though a continuation of the stem, 1–4 in. long. Spikelets clustered, 1/4– 1/3 in. long, ellipsoid, dusky brown. Glumes ovate, glabrous; tip subentire, mucronate. Hypogynous bristles 0. Style linear; branches 3. Nut 2/5 the length of the glume, trigonous, obovoid, black, smooth, slightly transversely wavy.
