Information
Flowering on long twining stems. Leaf-blade ovate, usually 5–9 cm. long, 3–5.5 cm. broad, acute, mostly ± densely pilose. Inflorescences mostly several-flowered; peduncle thicker than in other forms. Sepals pilose. Corolla usually purple.

Notes
Some examples of the type have wider sepals than the East African material but other Eritrean material has narrow sepals and it is supposed that the wide sepals are chance variation. I. gracilior is a form with narrower, less hairy sepals.
