Information
A very variable, subwoody shrublet up to 2.4 m. tall; stems covered with soft grey pubescence. Leaf-blade orbicular to elliptic-oblong, 8–22 cm. long, 7.5–17.7 cm. wide, rounded to cordate at the base, glabrous or nearly so above (rarely pubescent), very finely pubescent beneath, with the nerves and margin silvery; petiole 2.5–16 cm. long, biglandular at the apex. Flowers few to many in a dense or lax branched cyme; peduncle 10–18 cm. long; bracts deciduous, 1.8–2.6 cm. long, 0.5–1.4 cm. wide, hairy; secondary peduncles and pedicels 2–20 cm. long. Sepals elliptic, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 1.4–2.5 cm. long, 0.5–1.1 cm. wide, obtuse or acute, pubescent or woolly, the inner shorter, hairy in the middle and apiculate. Corolla white, purple or white with purple tube, funnel-shaped with a cylindric tube, 4.5–11.5 cm. long, with the midpetaline areas coloured like the tube, sparsely puberulous. Capsule globose, about 1.7 cm. in diameter. Seeds 1/4-globular, angular, 8 mm. long, 5 mm. wide, covered with dark brown adpressed hairs and also bearing an apical tuft (Fig. 24/5, p. 131).
