Notes
VARIATION. Ethiopian and Kenyan examples are often glabrous but the variation is too continuous to admit of Hallier’s varietal name. Forms from the Kinangop have smaller pinker flowers. The most striking variety seen is Dummer 3568 (Elgon, 2700 m., in bamboo zone, Jan. 1918) which has very narrow leaves 4.5 cm. long and only 1 cm. wide. This is perhaps only an extreme form and more material is needed to decidewhether a name is necessary. Tweedie 1785, 1786 and 1792, from Kenya, NE. Elgon, belong to a very hairy variant which may be confined to this area.
