Information
A slender erect distantly branched shrub up to 3 m. tall; new branches green, striate, sparsely white pubescent; older stems cylindrical, blackish-grey, with circular lenticels. Leaves soon deciduous; stipules linear, ± 5 mm. long; rhachis white pubescent, with a well-marked basal pulvinus, channelled above, up to 6 cm. long, including a petiole of up to 15 mm., prolonged up to 8 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets; stipellae filiform, ±1.5 mm. long; leaflets 5–9 (rarely 11–13), thin and soft, cuneate, oblong-elliptic, mucronate, up to 42 mm. long and 26 mm. wide, sparsely strigulose pubescent on both surfaces or subglabrous above. Racemes 15–30-flowered, white pubescent, up to 6 cm. long, including a peduncle of up to 8 mm.; bracts linear, 1–2 mm. long, white or golden-brown tomentose, caducous; pedicels ± 1 mm. long, reflexed in fruit. Calyx white or golden-brown tomentose, ± 1.75 mm. long; teeth triangular, as long as the tube. Corolla densely appressed golden brown tomentose outside. Stamens 4 mm. long. Pod often curved when young but straight when mature, ending in a short dark glabrous upturned conical beak formed by the persistent swollen style-base, tetragonous, 2–3 cm. long, ± 2 mm. wide and 2.8 mm. thick, white puberulent, finally glabrescent; endocarp faintly spotted. Seeds 5–6, ellipsoid, well separated.
