Names
INDIGOFERA mupensis Torre [family LEGUMINOSAE-PAPILIONOIDEAE], in Mem. Junt. Invest. Ultram., sér. 2, 19: 54, t. 35 (1960) & C.F.A. 3: 111 (1962). Type: Angola, Huila, Vila Artur Paiva between Mupa and Cassinga, Mendonça 4582 (LISC, holo., BM!, COI, iso.)
Information
Perennial herb, with more or less prostrate slender branches from a woody rootstock. Biramous hairs white, ± appressed; multicellular glandular hairs, sometimes up to 3 mm. long, present on stems, leaf- and inflorescence-rhachis, calyx and pod, and often on the margins of the leaflets as well. Stipules narrowly linear-lanceolate, green, usually reflexed, up to 5 mm. long; leaf-rhachis up to 35 mm. long including a petiole of 0.5–10 mm., usually prolonged 0.5–5 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets; leaflets 3–11, elliptic or oblanceolate, up to 15 mm. long and 9 mm. wide, sparsely appressed strigulose on both surfaces. Racemes often produced in the axils of reduced leaves near the base of the shoots, 2–15 times as long as the rhachis of the subtending leaf; bracts caducous; pedicels spreading. Calyx greenish-black; tube ± 1 mm. long; lobes linear-lanceolate, 2–2.5 mm. long. Corolla white pubescent outside. Filaments 3–5 mm. long. Pod spreading, straight, broadly elliptic in cross-section, 13–18 mm. long, ± 1.8 mm. wide, 5–8-seeded; endocarp slightly spotted. Seeds quadrangular, dark, slightly pitted.
