Information
Stems stout, stiffly erect, strigulose, up to 60 cm. tall from a perennial woody base. Lower leaves often simple, upper up to 11-foliolate; stipules triangular, strigulose, up to 3 mm. long; rhachis strigulose, up to 9 cm. long, including a petiole of 4 mm., prolonged up to 5 mm. beyond lateral leaflets; leaflets opposite or alternate, narrowly oblong, up to 6 cm. long and 1.5 cm. wide but often much smaller, typically scabrid above with short stiff hairs ± 0.2 mm. long. Racemes densely strigulose, many-flowered, up to 15 cm. long in fruit, including a peduncle of up to 2 cm.; bracts lanceolate, 2 mm. long, very caducous; pedicels 1–2 mm. long, strongly reflexed during and after flowering. Calyx divided to near the base; lobes acuminate-subulate, 4–5 mm. long. Stamens 6–7 mm. long. Fruit cylindrical, apparently indehiscent, spirally curved into 0.7–1.5 turns, ± 40 mm. long and 3 mm. wide, minutely strigulose, often somewhat warty; mesocarp woody, ± 0.5 mm. thick; endocarp not spotted.

Notes
The Tanganyika material is assigned to this species with some doubt as it lacks fruit and the indumentum of the upper surface of the leaflets consists of dense appressed hairs up to 0.5 mm. long instead of the sparser, more scabrid, very short hairs characteristic of the species.
