Notes
I follow Hauman in classifying var. greenwayii in close kinship with M. butayei rather than with the larger-flowered M. sapinii De Wild., but in view of the preceding comments (under M. bangweolensis) the possibility of a more correct affinity to this latter species should not be ignored. Var. butayei, which is found in the Belgian Congo but not, so far recorded from our area, differs in having a glabrous midrib on the undersurface of the leaves which are usually rounded to cordate at the base, and in the inflorescence indumentum which is largely appressed and fuscous.
