Information
Shrub up to 4 m tall, sometimes scandent; stems with broad-based conical prickles 1–3 together at base of petiole and sometimes a few scattered on stems, otherwise subglabrous. Leaves puberulous; petiole 3–35 mm long; blade ovate to orbicular or reniform, rarely shallowly 3-lobed, 0.5–4 x 0.6–4.5 cm, acute to rounded at the apex, with serrate margins. Flowers in leaf axils or in short racemes; pedicels 5–20 mm long, articulated at the base, puberulous and prickly. Epicalyx bracts 8–10, 5–12 x c. 1 mm, linear. Calyx 11–18 mm long; lobes puberulous and usually prickly, with a prominent central nerve and 2 submarginal nerves. Petals 4–7 cm long, yellow with purple base; staminal tube 3–5 cm long. Capsule 13–22 mm long, ovoid, acute, setose. Seeds c. 5 mm long, sparsely to densely pubescent.
