Information
herbaceous, laxly pubescent; stem and petioles prickly; leaves on long petioles, palmately 5–7 lobed, the lobes acuminate, sharply and unequally serrate, glabrescent, sprinkled with trifid hairs and prickles; peduncles elongate, jointed below the flower, patently pubescent; invol. of 9–10 narrow-linear, ciliate leaflets, rather shorter than the ovate-acuminate, thin, hispidulous calyx-lobes; capsule sub-globose, laxly setose; seeds glabrous. A tall, herbaceous plant, set with a few small prickles and thinly sprinkled with soft hairs. Flowers 2 inches across, yellow, with a dark purple centre.—Of this I have only seen a single specimen. It may be merely a glabrescent form of H. vitifolius, with more deeply divided leaves than usual.
