Information
Perennial herb or shrub, up to 2.5 m tall; stems tomentose and with long simple or branched irritating hairs. Leaves tomentose, with petiole 2.5–12 cm long; stipules filiform, often 2–3 side by side at a node; blade ovate to suborbicular in outline, entire to shallowly 3–5-lobed, up to 13.5 x 12 cm, cordate to truncate at the base, acute at the apex, with shallowly and irregularly toothed margins. Flowers in leaf axils or in racemes; pedicels 5–30 mm long, articulated near the middle. Epicalyx bracts 8–10, 7–17 x c. 2 mm, linear-spathulate and widest near the apex. Calyx 10–20 mm long, tomentose; lobes triangular, prominently 3-nerved. Petals 2.5–4 cm long, yellow with purple base. Staminal tube c. 15 mm long. Capsule c. 15 mm long, subglobose, densely setose. Seeds c. 3 mm long, densely pubescent.
Range
S3 widespread in tropical Africa and in Madagascar, Yemen, tropical Asia and Australia.
