dwarf, erect, the whole plant, except the petals densely setose with stiff, spreading, stellate hairs; leaves oval-oblong, 5-nerved, entire or 2–3-toothed near the point, on short petioles; stipules subulate; flowers axillary, pedunculate; involucre of about 10 subulate leaflets, nearly as long as the acuminate calyx-lobes; capsules and seeds glabrous. Stems woody, about 6 inches high, divided near the base into several erect, simple branches. Pubescence very rough, rigid and copious. Flowers 1 1/2 inch diameter, crimson or rosy. Seeds quite naked. In habit resembling one of the following section.
