Notes
Bremekamp has described a var. flaccida (in Verh. K. Nederl. Akad. Wet., Afd. Natuurk., ser. 2, 48(2): 248 (1952)); no type is cited but it is probably meant to be based on Hedyotis trichopoda A. Rich., Tent. Fl. Abyss. 1: 361 (1847), type: Ethiopia, Chiré, Quartin Dillon & Petit (P, holo.). It has leaf-blades up to 2 mm. wide rather than 1 mm. and although extremes can be very marked, e.g. Uganda, Busoga District, Lolui I., 18 June 1953, G. H. Wood 798! variants with longer wider leaves occur sporadically throughout the range of the typical plant and every intermediate occurs; it does not seem worth recognizing.
