Information
Perennial root parasite, drying black; stems 1–5 cm long with numerous nodes. Leaves absent or reduced to scales ± 2 mm long, the upper ovate, ± 7 mm long, glabrous or ciliate at margins; bracts scarlet, ovate, 7–l0 mm long, 3–5 mm broad, ± acute, ciliate. Calyx scarlet, tubular; tube 12–20 mm long, glabrous to pubescent on the veins, teeth shortly triangular, ± 3 mm long, ciliate. Corolla red or deep scarlet outside, shading to pale yellow at base, deep scarlet inside changing abruptly to yellow at mouth of tube; tube 45–50 mm long, lobes rounded, 8–15 mm long. Stamens nearly equal; filaments ± 30 mm long, inserted at same level, pubescent at base; anthers with perfect locule acute, sterile locule long-apiculate; style club-shaped. Capsule and seed not seen.

USES. None recorded on specimens from our area. CONSERVATION Although the species is not uncommon it is very localised and the habitat is under pressure being converted into agricultural land; assessed here as Vulnerable (VU B2a)
