Information
Shrub or small tree, often scandent and several meters long; trunk and larger branches often bearing spines on short wart-like outgrowths, branchlets unarmed or armed with hooked spines in pairs at base of petiole, glabrous to pubescent. Leaves 5–15-foliolate, 2.5–20 cm long, glabrous to pubescent; petiole and rhachis with wings 0.1–3 mm wide; leaflets sessile or almost so, broadly obovate to almost orbicular, 0.5–9 x 0.3–4 cm, rounded to acute at the apex, cuneate to almost rounded and usually asymmetric at the base, entire to crenate-serrate at least in upper half. Flowers cream, in axillary and terminal pubescent to subglabrous 1.5–14 cm long paniculate inflorescences. Petals valvate, ovate to lanceolate, 2–5.5 x 1–2.5 mm, sometimes hairy outside. Ovary 4–5(–6)-lobed. Berry 4–6-lobed, depressed-globose, 4–9 mm in diam., red to black when ripe, glabrous. Seeds 3.5–5 x 2.5–3 mm, smooth.
