Notes
Other workers have recognised 2 subspecies in the Flora area; subsp. elegantula and subsp. ochrantha, but differences between these are not consistent. In Malawi any one colony will contain plants which key out to either subspecies.Summerhayes in describing P. heterophylla differentiated it from P. crocea by its larger rostellum mid-lobe and by its relatively broad basal leaves and much narrower cauline leaves. However, all the measurements given fall within the range recognised for P. crocea.
