Notes
H. anamesa links the primarily Mediterranean H. hirta to the tropical H. filipendula (Clayton in K.B. 30: 568 (1975)). It is not usually difficult to distinguish from the latter, which has longer awn-hairs. It is less sharply separated from H. hirta, the 2 homogamous pairs of the upper raceme and the fewer awns per raceme pair being the most reliable characters.
