Information
Slender annual herb; stem creeping with erect branches, rooting at the nodes, 4-angled, glabrous or appressed setose. Leaves decussate; lamina rhombic-ovate to broadly ovate, up to 3.2 cm. long and 2 cm. wide, apex subobtuse to acute, base shortly attenuate, membranous, crenulate, pinkish green beneath, sparsely setose above and on the nerves beneath; nerves 3–5, scarcely prominent beneath; petiole slender, up to 13 mm. long. Flowers 1–3, subtended by a caducous dentate-ciliate bract. Calyx-tube 3.5–4 mm. long, 3.5 mm. in diameter, sparsely pilose to glabrous; lobes linear-triangular, 5 mm. long, sparsely ciliate, persistent. Petals obovate, ± 8 mm. long, 4 mm. wide, delicate, pale pink. Stamens 5–5.5 mm. long; anthers 1–1.5 mm. long; connective ± 0.5–1 mm. long with 2 minute tubercles; filament 3–3.5 mm. long. Fruiting calyx 4–6 mm. in diameter, retaining the persistent lobes. Seeds 1.2–1.5 mm. long. Fig. 2.

Notes
The second species, G. tenella Naud., on which the genus is based, occurs in Guinée and differs in being entirely glabrous. G. ciliata may prove to be no more than a setose form of G. tenella.
