Names
GREWIA burttii Exell [family TILIACEAE], in J.B. 72: 314 (1934); T.T.C.L.: 617 (1949). Type: Tanzania, Dodoma District, Dodoma to Kondoa road, B.D. Burtt 1433 (BM, holo., EA, K!, iso.)
Information
Spreading shrub to 4.5 m tall; young stems shortly stellate-pubescent. Leaves elliptic, 2.3–8.5 cm long, 0.9–3.4 cm wide, acuminate at the apex, rounded at the base, margin serrate, roughly hairy above, denser beneath; petiole 2–5 mm long, densely pubescent; stipules subulate, to 6 mm long. Inflorescence a 3-flowered cyme, 1–2 in a leaf-axil; peduncle very reduced, up to 3 mm long; pedicels 5–7 mm long, densely to sparsely pubescent. Flowers yellow; sepals 4–9 mm long, densely pubescent on the outside; petals oblong, 3–6 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide. Androgynophore ± 0.5 mm long, glabrous; stamens 4–5 mm long; ovary 1–1.5 mm long, densely hairy; style 3–4 mm long. Fruit subglobose to obovoid, often obliquely so, 7–8 mm long, 5–7 mm wide, yellow-green, tuberculate-hairy. Fig. 7 (p. 38).

Notes
The fruits are apparently sweet and taste of apricot. They are much eaten by humans, pigeons and doves, civet cats and elephants.
