Information
Shrub or small tree 1.2–4.5 m tall with smooth grey or brown bark; slash pale pink. Leaves thin, narrowly oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic, 4–21 cm long, 0.8–4.8 cm wide, narrowly acute to acuminate at the apex, narrowly cuneate at the base, closely serrate with curved aculeate teeth; midrib prominent on both surfaces and lateral veins ± 12–15, strongly curved upwards with numerous secondary ± parallel veins ± at right angles to the midrib and reticulate tertiary venation between, all prominent on both sides; petiole 1–4 mm long; stipules linear, 5–10 mm long, aristate, very soon deciduous. Inflorescences subterminal, 7–18 cm long, branched, the cymes 1–5-flowered; pedicels 6–10 mm long with joint 1–5 mm from base; bracts ovate, striate, deciduous. Sepals narrowly oblong-lanceolate, 5–8 mm long, 1.5–2.2 mm wide. Petals yellow, obovate, (5–)8 mm long, (2.5–)4.5–5.5 mm wide. Drupelets 1–3, reddish, presumably turning black, 5–6 mm long, 3–5 mm wide.

The taxon described above was for long called Ouratea floribunda De Wild. and the type of that exactly fits the Uganda populations. Unfortunately the name cannot be used in Gomphia since there is a prior G. floribunda St. Hil. See at end of G. vogelii .
