branches at first pilose, finally glabrous and with prominent leaf-scars, stout; leaves approximate, alternate or subopposite, lanceolate, obtuse, at first pilose, finally minutely scabrous; bracteoles oblong, obtuse, scabrous, 2 1/2 lin. long, 2/3 lin. wide; flowers in the axils of the uppermost leaves; calyx silky outside; tube 5 lin. long, slightly inflated above; lobes elliptic, 4 lin. long, 2 lin. wide; petals about 12 in one series, 1/3 lin. long, lanceolate, slender; longer stamens with anthers about half as large as the shorter; style filiform, hairy; stigma clavate. null
