Information
Annual herb, stiffly erect, 0.4–1 m high, becoming slightly woody at base; stems simple or branching from base, white-woolly, glabrescent on older parts. Leaves discolorous, green above, grey or whitish beneath, oblong to lanceolate, 1–8 cm long, 0.3–0.8 cm wide, base broad and ± cordate-clasping, occasionally decurrent for up to 3 mm, margins entire and often slightly undulate, apex acute, sparsely pubescent and glandular above, white-felted beneath. Capitula 3–5 mm long, whitish, sessile, several together in tight clusters, these in turn arranged in a large corymbose panicle 1.5–15 cm across; receptacle shortly honeycombed; phyllaries in ± 4 series, imbricate, proximally green, distally (lamina) white, oblong to lanceolate,3–4 mm long, acute or obtuse, stereome undivided, the outer 2 series lanate. Outer florets yellow, > 100, tube filiform, 1.8–2.3 mm long, lobes < 0.1 mm long, style included or very briefly exserted, briefly divided; inner florets yellow, 10–30, tube cylindrical, 1.5–1.8 mm long, lobes 0.1–0.2 mm long and glabrous; anthers 0.8–0.9 mm long, briefly caudate, with a short triangular distal appendage, style 2 mm long. Achenes ellipsoid, 0.4–0.5 mm long, glabrous; pappus of many white bristles, 1.5–2.5 mm long, cohering at base by cilia.
