Information
Fascicle bracts linear-lanceolate to linear, not divided. Corolla white, or tinged blue or mauve or with a spot of that colour on the inside of the standard, 7.5–8.5 mm long.

Notes
Generally easily recognised in Malawi, where it overlaps the range of the more common and widespread var. longicauda, by its larger flowers, more hairy pods and generally felty tomentose leaflets. It is more closely associated with montane forests, descending principally along the rivers, but a few specimens are ± intermediate, e.g. Mwera Hill, Wiehe N/226 (K). The single collection from the Mbala District of Zambia, cited above, is also intermediate.Var. petitiana, with fascicle bracts ovate-lanceolate and sometimes 3-fid and with corollas blue or mauve and 8–11 mm long, occurs in Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia.
