Information
corm globose; tunics of strong, matted, wiry fibres; flowering-stem simple, 1–2 ft. long; sheaths conspicuously hairy, the lowest without any blade; the two upper with a produced linear blade of thick, rigid texture, 1/2–1 ft. long; flowers 3–4 in a lax secund spike, bright red or lilac; outer spathe-valve oblong-lanceolate, green, 1/2–1 in. long; perianth with a curved tube, 3/4–1 in. long, broadly funnel-shaped in the upper half; limb as long as the tube; segments obscurely cuspidate; upper obovate, 1/3– 1/2 in. broad; lower oblong, unguiculate; stamens reaching halfway up the limb. null
