Flowers in ± congested sessile or pedunculate umbelliform cymes; pedicels fairly stout; calyces 1.5–3 mm. long in fruit. Fig. 1.

Notes
This species is very variable, especially in leaf-shape and degree of compactness of the inflorescence, but the variation is so continuous and reticulate that, although it is undoubtedly genetic, maintenance of any of the previously proposed varieties as distinct is impossible. However, the following seems to merit varietal status.
